The second National Cattle Mobility Event was held at the Universtiy of Nottingham's Sutton Bonington Campus, on March 26th, 2009. Over 200 delegates attended the event, including farmers, foot trimmers, vets, consultants, and both agricultural and veterinary students.

 

 

 

 

The Keynote Speaker was Dutch vet and cattle lameness expert Joep Driessen, who spoke about 'ClawSignals - every foot tells a tale'. Dr Jon Huxley from the Nottingham University also gave an excellent presentation on 'Lameness and cow comfort in modern dairy herds'.

The afternoon session was held at the University's state-of-the-art Dairy Centre, and delegates had the opportunity to visit a number of practical workshop sessions, entitled:

  • CowSignals and ClawSignals - what your cows are trying to tell you!
  • How much does the environment matter? Footbaths, rubber and robots
  • Practical demonstration of foot trimming
  • Practical demonstration of mobility scoring
